¿Qué son las Jornadas Regionales de Software Libre?
Las Jornadas Regionales de Software Libre son un evento regional, internacional e itinerante donde líderes y seguidores trabajan para integrar proyectos, lanzar nuevas ideas y superar los límites de los programas que utilizan.
Las jornadas del 2008 serán la octava edición del evento, que ya se ha realizado en Argentina y Uruguay. Para el 2009 está planeado realizarlas en Chile.
Durante las jornadas se reunirán programadores, desarrolladores, estrategas, expertos en tecnologías, emprendedores involucrados en Software Libre para intercambiar ideas, compartir técnicas, discutir y explorar tecnologías libres tales como Perl, MySQL, JAVA, PHP, Python, Linux, Apache y muchas otras.
¿Qué es el Software Libre?
Se considera Software Libre a aquellos programas de computadora que, por sus términos de licencia ofrecen a usuarios y desarrolladores cuatro libertades:
* la libertad de usar el programa con cualquier propósito, * la libertad de estudiar el código fuente y adaptarlo a las propias necesidades * la libertad de hacer y distribuir copias * la libertad de mejorar el programa y redistribuir las mejoras.
El software constituye hoy la técnica cultural de la era digital. Programas informáticos gestionan las comunicaciones y almacenan la memoria de las sociedades modernas. En este marco de informatización creciente de los procesos sociales, el acceso a los programas informáticos es no sólo una cuestión estratégica en el campo económico y tecnológico, sino y principalmente en el campo de la independencia política, la cultura y el acceso a conocimientos esenciales para la vida cotidiana.
Un poco de historia:
Primera Edición
Durante el 4, 5 y 6 de Agosto del año 2000 se realizaron en Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina las 1eras Jornadas Nacionales de Software Libre, organizadas por el GNU/Linux User Group Rosario y la Asociación de Nuevas Tecnologías. En dicho evento se contó con la prestigiosa visita de Richard M. Stallman por primera vez en América Latina. mas informacion
Segunda Edición
Continuando con lo que se había hecho en Rosario en 2000, los dias 28, 29 y 30 de Junio de 2001 el UYLUG retoma la tarea y realiza las 2das Jornadas Regionales de Software Libre, en la Intendencia Municipal de Montevideo, Uruguay. mas informacion
Tercera Edición
Las 3ras Jornadas Regionales sobre software Libre tuvieron lugar los días 17, 18 y 19 de Octubre del 2002 en las instalaciones de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Universidad de la República. Entre los principales participantes podemos destacar la presencia de John Hall (presidente de Linux International) y de Larry Wall (creador del lenguaje Perl). mas informacion
Cuarta Edición
Las 4tas Jornadas fueron, nuevamente, organizadas por el UYLUG los dias 6, 7 y 8 de noviembre de 2003 en el Radisson Victoria Plaza Hotel, Montevideo, Uruguay. mas informacion
Quinta Edición
En el año 2005 las 5tas Jornadas fueron nuevamente organizadas por ANT y grupos de software libre locales, los dias 20, 21, 22 y 23 de noviembre del 2005 en Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina y estas jornadas fueron auspiciadas por UNESCO, contaron con la presencia de Richard Stallman y otros miembros activos de diversos proyectos de SL. mas informacion
Sexta Edición
Las 6tas jornadas se llevaron a cabo los dias 13, 14 y 15 de Octubre del 2006 en Mendoza, Argentina esta edición fue organizada por el Grupo de de Usuarios de Software Libre de Mendoza. mas informacion
Septima Edición
Las 7as jornadas se llevaron a cabo del 7 al 11 de agosto de 2007 en la ciudad de Cordoba, Argentina esta edición fue organizada por el Grupo de Usuarios de Software Libre de Córdoba, Fundación Vía Libre y la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. mas informacion
¿Quién organiza este año?
La organización de las jornadas de este año (2008) está a cargo de CaFeLUG, el grupo de usuarios de Software Libre de Capital Federal y cuenta con el apoyo y participación de organizaciones afines. Desde sus inicios en el año 2000, CaFeLUG se ha conformado como un grupo de trabajo pujante en favor de la filosofía del Software Libre, siendo actualmente uno de los grupos de usuarios más numerosos y activos del país.
CaFeLUG realiza actividades regulares de trabajo, entre las que se cuentan sus reuniones mensuales, sus Charlas Técnicas Trimestrales y su Conferencia Anual, CaFeCONF

What is "Jornadas Regionales de Software Libre"?
JSRL is a regional, international & roving event where leaders and followers work to integrate proyects, launch new ideas and overcome the hurdles of the software they use.
2008 will be the 8th. edition of the event that already was held at Argentina and Uruguay. For the 2009 edition Chile is planning to host it.
During the event programmers, developers, strategists, technology experts and entrepeneurs involved with Free software will meet to exchange ideas, share techniques, discuss and explore free technologies such as Perl, MySQL, JAVA, PHP, Python, Linux, Apache and many more.
What do Free Software is?
Free Software are all those programs whose license terms offer four freedoms to the user and the developer
* Freedom to use the software for whatever purpose * Freedom to study and adapt the source code to his/hers own needs * Freedom to copy and distribute it * Freedom to upgrade the software and distribute those upgrades
Software is today the digital era cultural technique. Programs manage communications and store modern society memories. Within this increasing computerization of the social processes, access to software is not only a strategic issue in the economic and technological filed, but, and mainly, in the field of political independence, culture and access to knowledge that is essential to daily life.
Brief history:
First Edition
During August 4th, 5th, & 6th, 2000, the first Jornadas Nacionales de Software Libre were hosted at Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, organized by GNU/Linux User Group Rosario and the Asociación de Nuevas Tecnologías. 2005 5th. Jornadas were organized once again by ANT and local Free Software groups, on November 20th, 21th, 22th and 23th, at Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina. Who hosts this year's?
The organization of the workshop this year (2008) rests upon CaFeLUG, Capital Federal Free Software Users Group and has the support and participation of organizations alike. Since its beginnings, back to 2000, CaFeLUG has been building up a thriving task force of Free Software philosophy advocates, being one of the most numerous and active groups of the country.
CaFeLUG does regular work activities, among whose you can find monthly meetings, Charlas Técnicas Trimestrales (Quarterly Technical Speeches) and its Conferencia Anual (Anual Conference), CaFeCONF.
